GET TO KNOW YOUR THERAPIST
Daryln Chapa LPC Associate
I earned my master’s degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2019, where I
learned how to help others the best way I can, by listening. After years 8 years as a certified
teacher in Texas, serving schools in high needs areas, I became a certified School Counselor in
2021. Now, I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, supervised by Cheryl Shulter,
LPC-S, trying to help on a larger scale.
Throughout my career, I have worked with all school aged children from kindergarten to high
school and some young adults. This is where I developed a passion for helping others in need
with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bullying, and other challenges that children face in schools. I
Counseling is a collaborative effort between therapist and client. My goal is always to give you a
safe and open space to explore emotions and thoughts that you struggle with. By using a
person-centered approach and pulling strategies from Solution focused, Brief therapy,
Cognitive Behavior, Play Therapy and Existentialism, my goal is to help you achieve your goal.
Most importantly, I use your strengths, your culture, your values and your beliefs get you there.
In our sessions, we will discuss goals, hopes, and dreams. We will also explore obstacles and
challenges. I am meant to make you question and wonder about what is best for you. I am not
going to live with the choices you make, you are. You will learn skills that you will need to
practice in real life and decide if it is the right skill for you.
3 Words that Describe Me
Helper- I love to help others from volunteering my time to doing manual labor to help those in
need. I feel my purpose is to help. I usually say that I am not meant to be a queen bee because I
love being a helper bee.
Understanding- I care for people. You are not judged by your last mistake. People make
mistakes, misspeak, and reaction inappropriately. That doesn’t mean that is who you are. I
understand that we are all capable of doing bad and good in the world. My goal is to help you
do more good.
Diverse- I was raised in a biracial household. Being raised by two cultural backgrounds is
difficult and I learned to manage difficult situations. I was also given the opportunity to
experience two different worlds and all the beautiful things they had to offer.
I love to disconnect from the world for a couple of days by enjoying the wilderness or a good
renaissance festival. My pets are 4 fish and 2 chihuahuas. Days are best when there is a movie
night with lost of snacks. I enjoy reading fiction and psychology books. I am a dork at heart and
enjoy a good Syfy conversation.
