GET TO KNOW YOUR THERAPIST

Katrina Cleveland LPC

Hello! I am Katrina Cleveland. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).  I work with 13+, Adults, Couples, and Families with depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, phase of life issues, grief, eating disorders, substance use, anger management, parenting issues, perinatal/postpartum issues, and various areas where people struggle or need help processing.

As your  therapist, I strive to create a safe, open and judgment free environment. I use a person centered approach in therapy where I believe that positive change starts and thrives through the therapeutic relationship. You are the expert on your life, and it is my role to guide and support you through the journey you are taking. I encourage you to identify the barriers that are preventing you from feeling fulfilled and achieving your life goals, and then assist you with accessing the strengths and skills you possess to break down these barriers and move forward. Our journey in life can lead us down some rough roads, and I am here to support you in paving a smoother path for yourself.

Our sessions are guided by your personal goals and the areas you want to find health and balance in your life. I use approaches rooted in CBT, mindfulness and unconditional positive regard. I look at the whole person and how all areas in your life may be having an impact on where you are.

As your therapist, my approach is:

Patient: The process of making a change in your life can be a long and complex one. As your therapist, I make sure to maintain patience and meet you at the pace you are comfortable with. Change takes time and adjustment. If something is not working, it is okay to take a step back and reassess the plan without feeling like you need to rush the process.

Accepting: No matter what walk of life you come from, I will accept you for both the person you are and the person you want to become. A vital part of the counseling process is for me to take the time to understand you, without judgment, and appreciate the steps you have taken to get you to where you are today. I understand it can sometimes be a very difficult thing to fully accept yourself. Our counseling process begins with the foundation of acceptance.

Curious: I ask a lot of questions! When I want to know how something works or learn more about an interesting topic, I tend to ask numerous questions. The same is true when I am getting to know a person and how they came to be in the place they are now. In therapy, you are my interesting topic that I am curious about and want to learn how I can best support.

In my free time I find joy in spending time with my family, running, spending time outdoors and finding new books to read. I aspire to travel more and to continue to learn and grow in the ever changing field of counseling and psychology.
